[Forum] Capitalization of chapter and section headings
Hi! I'm sorry if this is a newbie question but I couldn't find any clear instructions from CMOS (15th ed.). How should one write the headings of chapters, section, subsection and subsubsections? (8.167 is a clear instruction about writing the title of the work, but not the section headings...)

[Forum] RE: general formatting q
Headings should follow the same line spacing as the rest of a document. If the document is double-spaced, the headings should be as well. If the document is single-spaced, the headings should be too.

[Forum] RE: Parenthetical items in headlines and headings
Thanks, Pixna. My colleague found something related to this subject in 3.55. Even though it deals with parentheses in table headings, it wouldn't be a stretch to apply it to the example I have here.

[Forum] RE: When styles collide
I'd just be consistent, however you handle them. In the books I work on, the drop cap comes at the start of chapter, not new sections within a chapter, if that's any help. The section headings and chapter headings are formatted differently as well. So if it were up to me, I'd design the chapter and

[Forum] RE: References to internal divisions (chapters, etc.) in a report

[Forum] RE: When styles collide
Thanks for the clear explanation, V! Do all the chapters have immediate section headings following them or just a few? If they're interspersed and the initial section headings aren't that many and aren't important, I'd drop them. But I'd check with the author or publisher about that first, since

[Forum] Why isn't sentence case preferred for headings?
Hi, I'm an Australian content and copywriter writing across many English-speaking countries. Does anyone know why title (aka headline) case is used for headings and headlines throughout the USA? I'm happy to use it but would like to understand the rationale, particularly when online UX is i

[Forum] Heading formatting
According to 5.61, there are at least three levels of headings: level-A, level-B, and level-C. We use these levels to establish a hierarchy of information, and we use different formatting styles to differentiate the various levels of headings. A document I'm editing has two different types of le

[Forum] RE: Capitalization of chapter and section headings
CMOS isn't as proscriptive as some other styles, such as APA. Turabian (7th ed.) has a suggested (but not required) usage. You are free to use what you like, although the general guideline is that higher level headings should be more prominent than lower level subheadings. Also, some disciplines ha
