Q. As a copyeditor, I’m starting to see papers where the authors cite presentations from virtual conferences and meetings. What would you suggest as far as wording and style for the location of such a meeting? (I was thinking maybe “[Virtual]” would work in place of the location.) Thank you in advance!
A. We like your suggestion, which we would style as in the following note:
1. Jaime Smith, “Title of Presentation” (ABCD Annual Conference, April 6, 2021, virtual).
If the platform is somehow relevant to the discussion, you can either mention it in the text or replace “virtual” with “via Zoom” or whatever applies. See also CMOS 14.115.
