Internet, Web, and Other Post-Watergate Concerns
Q. Is there a proper format for creating an e-mail?
A. Electronic mail is sometimes thought to be an entirely new species, but it is often just a convenient form for sending plain old letters (and enclosures) to other people. So I suppose if there is a “proper format” it is the format that is evolving right now, based in part on more traditional forms of correspondence and colored by some of the trends that e-mail has been responsible for (emoticons [:)], lack of capitalization, no need for greeting and closing in many cases, etc.). But if this general observation is not what you were looking or hoping for, please write back with a more specific question.
