[Forum] RE: Plural Acronyms
A common similar acronym is STD, which stands for sexually transmitted diseases (also plural). However, whenever this acronym is used in a plural construction, it is changed to STDs. I would do the same with ATD, even though the plural is included with the "a" rather than the ending "d."

[Forum] RE: Possessive in the Name of a Business
I think the real question is whether "sweets" is like "Times" which is a plural word not needing an additional plural ending. Or if it is like "Williams" which does take the plural ending "es". As Tut suggested before, the ideal is to just avoid the plural by saying "Sweets Family Dentistry".

[Forum] All I see is [plural]?
Does "all" take a singular or plural verb when used in these constructions: All I want is two sandwiches. All I'm seeing is bright blobs of color. I feel 90 percent certain the plural would be inappropriate here, but I would absolutely hate to get this wrong. If I reverse the sentence o

[Forum] RE: Apostrophe s, everyone's favorite
The way I frame the rule in my own mind is that you add an apostrophe alone if the term ends in a pluralizing s—that is, an s that was added to the end of a word to make it plural. Otherwise, you add apostrophe s. So the United States’ role has only an apostroph

[Forum] RE: 'or' in subject with a plural verb?
Yes, good point, Crosstees, about when the last listed item is plural that a plural verb is needed. Of course, even when a plural noun is the only noun in the sentence, a plural verb is needed.

[Forum] RE: FAQ or FAQs?
If the styling is open to debate (and I hope it is), I'd go with FAQ for one frequently asked question and FAQs for several questions or a list of them, to keep the sense of the singular or plural in the acronym itself. If FAQ is treated as a plural, sentences that use it as a subject will seem

[Forum] RE: Confusing singular v. plural
Thanks! Appreciate this; and yes, I also hope others will chime in. If one were to diagram the first sentence, wouldn't the subject be two things: WHAT and HOW ? Therefore, requiring plural? But I agree, it sounds wrong to use plural.

[Forum] RE: plural of drive-thru
It's entirely possible that I'm forgetting other exceptions, but I'm pretty sure the only time I would ever use an apostrophe in a plural form would be for the plural of a lowercase letter.
