RE: Mutiple cities with single country? Commas, or rearrange sentence?
I like your recast better. Imagine being someone who is not at all acquainted with California. You wouldn't know if those city names were cities, or states, or what. |

RE: Cities: LA, SF and NY or L.A., S.F. and N.Y.?
Chapter 10 in CMOS has a lot of advice about how to use abbreviations. This section in particular has some points that address your questions: http://www.chicagomanualofstyle.org/16/ch10/ch10_sec004.html

RE: a question on listing cities and their states in series
I hesitate to say yes.
I am editing a scholarly book on a transnational theme. Due to the subject, I am hesitant to assume that the readers would know the cities, but the publisher is American. Does the CSM have a rule that dictates when,or when not, to include the states?
Thank you! |

RE: a question on listing cities and their states in series
For cities that are large and well known, it's not necessary to include the states. I would just list them as follows:

RE: Capitalization of linking verb
What are the examples in 8.157? I see examples of "Is" capitalized in 8.158, but I don't see any reference to "is" on 8.157, other than capitalizing all major words, including verbs. Are you saying "is" is not a major word? |

Is major league hyphenated
I'm back again. I have looked this one up on quite a few sites with differing opinions.
Do you hyphenate Major League?
Being an Aussie, I wouldn't use this term at all, so don't know the correct way.
As usual, any help would be appreciated. |

Hey, everyone! Sorry I've been away so long. It's been a rough summer for me - I've been out of it for quite a while.
