[Forum] Internet User
Hi there, Newbie here with a question. I understand that CMS capitalizes the I in Internet when it is a proper noun or general concept. However, if I describe someone as an "internet user", or use the term "internet use", do I capitalize those i's as well? I am editing a formal document where f

[Forum] internet of things
Hi. I'm copy editing an annual publication for a marketing company. We try to stay on the bleeding edge of editorial style. So should it be "internet of things" or "Internet of things" or "Internet of Things"? I've seen options 1 and 2 in the NY Times in the past two weeks. Note: we are going

[Forum] RE: internet of things
I don't think the phrase has been around long enough to put its feet up on the table and drink without a coaster, so I'm with RGJaxon on "Internet of Things." That being said, if you're using a lower-case "internet," I don't think you really have any option other than "internet of things." I'm sure

[Forum] RE: AP Style alert: Don’t capitalize internet and web anymore
Why would you capitalize internet?
Because it's a proper noun. A company can have its own extranet or intranet, but there's only one Internet. http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/Internet

[Forum] RE: internet of things
Haha! Your reply really cracked me up, Chris -- loved it! After scouting around the web for a bit, I found that "Internet of Things" seems to be the predominant way to state this, except for Wikipedia (not a reliable source, of course), which uses "Internet of things" but goes on to use the initi

[Forum] RE: CMOS going to "Internet"? Is this true?
I saw this on the Merriam-Webster site. Lower case i for Internet and email without the dash. Right on, I say!
In the online M-W Collegiate and Unabridged, "email" and "internet" are listed as equal alternatives to "e-mail" and "Inter

[Forum] RE: CMOS going to "Internet"? Is this true?
In the online M-W Collegiate and Unabridged, "email" and "internet" are listed as equal alternatives to "e-mail" and "Internet." That's a welcome breath of contemporary fresh air! :D
That's odd. My online Collegiate lists "internet" as

[Forum] RE: AP Style alert: Don’t capitalize internet and web anymore
If anything, Web should be capitalized, since it's short for World Wide Web, a proper noun, and internet should be lowercase, since it's not. You don't capitalize intranet or extranet or virtual private network. Why would you capitalize internet?

[Forum] RE: the net
The word internet is now lowercased in the 17th edition, even though MW has it capitalized. https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/Internet https://www.chicagomanualofstyle.org/book/ed17/part2/ch07/psec080.html https://www.chicagomanualofstyle.org/help-tools/what-s-new.html (check for

[Forum] RE: CMOS going to "Internet"? Is this true?
That's odd. My online Collegiate lists "internet" as an option, but my online Unabridged only shows "Internet" to me. For email, both are listing "e-mail" as the primary and "email" as a variant. I wonder why our Unabridged dictionaries are showin
