[Forum] punctuation
Embarrassed to admit that sometimes I'm still unsure whether to use a colon or a semi-colon! Which should I use in the following sentence? Others find it useful: some remarkable virtual and hybrid projects are made by MIT students in INTM and Industrial Design. Thanks for any help you can off

[Forum] Punctuation
I'm editing a book where the author makes frequent use of direct questions. I'd like to create a style guide for future books in the series. Can someone help me with punctuation in terms of colon or no colon, capital or no capital after the colon, question mark or no question mark, vertical list or

The colon entry, [url=http://www.chicagomanualofstyle.org/16/ch06/ch06_sec059.html]6.59[/url], is short, and it contains this statement: "The colon should generally convey the sense of 'as follows.'" [Forum] RE: capitalizing after a colon
But Tut, the 17th has a different section that specifically mentions when the words after the colon constitute a question. Then, they say to capitalize. Does that section not exist in the 15th?

[Forum] Use of more than one colon in a sentence
I'm pretty sure that there's a comment in [i]CMOS[/i] somewhere about avoiding the use of more than one colon in a single sentence. However, I can't find the reference, and need to cite it in my edits.  Thanks for any clues.

[Forum] RE: period before colon
Hi, and welcome to the CMOS forum. If this is the format you're using for your notes and bibliography, there's no reason why you can't have a colon after an abbreviation that ends with a period. It's rather common, in fact.

[Forum] RE: Colon
I don't think there's any particular rule about this. It's really a design matter. I prefer the colon if there won't be any special design treatment of "notes," for no reason other than because it provides a clear demarcation and indicates that a list follows.
