[Forum] RE: Numbers in Fiction
General CMOS rules do not advise that all numbers are spelled out - just numbers under 100. http://www.chicagomanualofstyle.org/16/ch09/ch09_sec002.html And there are many exceptions. In your examples, the following would apply: http://www.chicagomanualofstyle.org/16/ch09/ch09_sec007.html h

[Forum] Significant Figures
What is the rule of thumb with significant figures (digits) in results tables for scientific research? Specifically, I have one column where the numbers are in the 20s and another column where the numbers are approximately 0.007. Because of the 0.007, I use 3 significant figures. Does that me

[Forum] International Telephone Formatting
Hello, all. We're having a heated discussion on the topic of how to display our phone numbers on our business cards. We have offices overseas and cannot find any suitable source to ensure we are displaying our telephone numbers in proper format per country. In many countries, there does no seem t

[Forum] RE: Dashes and stuff
One item we missed mentioning is that you have to use the numeric keypad, not the numbers above the letters on your keyboard. So for the em-dash, hold down the ALT key, and then hit on the numeric keypad 0151 to get —. You need to hold the ALT key down until you are finished entering the numbers.

[Forum] Numbers, Dialogue
Hello! Doing a final read on my ARC and have been studying different things within CMOS. With respect to numbers, here is my question: I have a character telling students to open to page two hundred and thirty-two within dialogue. I was reading on CMOS and it say page numbers should be

[Forum] Scale numbers: Spell out or use numerals?
I'm relatively new to Chicago Manual style, so forgive what may be a silly question. However, I've not been able to find a clear ruling anywhere on this site regarding this: When referring to a numerical scale, do we spell out the numbers (as is the general rule here for numbers under 100) or make a
