To italicize Deepwater Horizon or not? If an oil rig is considered a "base" or "port" for example, it would not be italicized. CMS protocol? Thank you!!

Yep, for italicized sentences that contain words that would otherwise be italic, the treatment is to make them roman.

Yes, that's correct. And the newspaper name should be italic. Some people just shouldn't be teachers, especially of English.

Update!! If a rig is not anchored - like the Deepwater Horizon, then it is considered a vessel (as per USCG) so it is italicized.
