[Forum] RE: Capitalization
Hello Susan, You'll note that [i]internet[/i] itself is lowercase. That might suggest that [i]internet cloud[/i] is lowercase too. [i]CMOS[/i] states that internet is lowercase; please see [url=https://www.chicagomanualofstyle.org/book/ed17/part2/ch07/psec080.html]7.80: Terms like "web" and "i

[Forum] CMOS section
Could someone please help me understand what seems to be a contradiction in 7.76 regarding the capping/non-capping of "Internet/internet" 7.76 In keeping with Chicago’s recommendations elsewhere (see 8.67), generic terms that are capitalized as part of the official name of a system or an organiz

[Forum] RE: AP Style alert: Don’t capitalize internet and web anymore
[quote='doowopqueen' pid='28300' dateline='1459629314']Do you see lowercasing "Internet" when the next edition comes up?[/quote] If you're asking whether Chicago will do so, I doubt it. I expect them to defer to a dictionary. I use Merriam-Webster, which still capitalizes it: http://www.merria

[Forum] RE: CMOS going to "Internet"? Is this true?

[Forum] RE: AP Style alert: Don’t capitalize internet and web anymore
I think I'm at the same conference as the poster. Do you see lowercasing "Internet" when the next edition comes up?

[Forum] AP Style alert: Don’t capitalize internet and web anymore
http://www.poynter.org/2016/ap-style-change-alert-dont-capitalize-internet-and-web-any-more/404664/ Hopefully Chicago will follow suit with "Internet." They already lowercase "the web." Does that mean "the net" is now lowercase, too? :)

[Forum] RE: CMOS going to "Internet"? Is this true?
I saw this on the Merriam-Webster site. Lower case i for Internet and email without the dash. Right on, I say!

[Forum] RE: CMOS section
In cases such as this, I tend to bend to M-W, which caps "Internet." However, I'm becoming more and more flexible with this particular word. Just as I now use "email" (with no hyphen), I often use "internet" (lowercase). Call me a rebel! :D

[Forum] RE: Caps
The word Internet is defined in several dictionaries as capped. However, it is trending away from capping. So either way is acceptable. Here's a link regarding that discussion. http://www.grammarist.com/style/internet-capitalization/

[Forum] Using CMOS Online without internet access?
Is there an offline option to use the CMOS electronic version when the internet connection is weak or not available?
