Hi all I don't know whether this has come up before, but can you start a sentence with superscript? The context is a translation of a medical document, and the word in question is "111In-pentetreotide " (the 111 is superscript). That shouldn't be superscript, Jerry. See [url=http://www.chicagomanualofstyle.org/16/ch09/ch09_sec006.html]CMOS 9.6: Ordinals[/url]. You can turn off that feature in Word so it doesn't automatically create superscript where you don't want it.

I would keep the superscript roman. The citation number isn't part of what's being cited, so there's no reason for it to be italicized.

Hello, and welcome to the forum. Either format is acceptable and considered legal for trademark and copyright symbols, but they'll look better and more polished if they're superscript.

I'm going to suggest treating it just as CMOS treats a superscript numeral and putting it after the semicolon. It is, after all, taking the place of a superscript numeral.
