[Forum] RE: comma after question mark in titles of works
I think you have it right all round. Yes, to the commas in the first two examples. No, to the last one. The section you pointed to in CMOS had the answer: [i]When, however, the title of a work ends in a question mark or exclamation point, a comma should also appear if the grammar of the sentenc

[Forum] embedded questions
My author insists that the following are reported questions and therefore do not need question marks: -What on earth did a girl talk to her boss about after a night like the one they’d just had, she agonised as the waiter filled their cups. -Why had Tom changed towards her, she wondered, becaus

[Forum] RE: Comma inside the quotes after the question mark?
Thank you, RG. That section, though, seems to illustrate—and support—the inclusion of a comma after the question mark.

[Forum] RE: em dash as sudden break in a question in dialogue

If the character is simply asking a question and dialogue isn't interrupted, then the terminal question mark is needed. In most cases, it's clear what's g

I can't recall having seen it followed by another punctuation mark. I suspect context will allow a reader to differentiate bet

[Forum] Comma after Question Mark within the Quotes
His latest article, “How Do We Get Out of this Recession?," was powerful and forthright. Two questions: 1. Is the comma correctly placed after the question mark and inside the quote marks? 2. Would we cap the words "of" and "this" in the article's title? TY

[Forum] Em dash + question mark?
When an question is broken by an em dash, should a question mark be included? For example, which of the following is correct? "What do you—" or What do you—?"

[Forum] comma following question mark in quoted material
Should the comma following the question mark be inside the closing quotes in this sentence? Outside the quotes does not seem appropriate in American English. As Sojourner Truth invokes in her speech "Ain't I a Woman?," while White womanhood was associated with . . .

[Forum] RE: punctuation and quotation marks
The punctuation in your sentences is correct. In American usage, only when there is actual quoted matter within a question does the close quote go before the question mark. (See section 6.9 for examples.) In British usage, the question mark goes outside the close quote.
