[size=medium][font=Verdana] Anyone know what CMOS (15th edition) says about whether figure captions should be single- or double-spaced? I can't find a place in 15 where it's stated one way or another, but the examples kinda look double-spaced, although the type is so tiny it's hard to tell.[/font

Re captions for photomicrographs, is there an abbreviation for "magnification" as in the following: Magnification X100. This would be especially relevant when there are many figures on a page, all including the magnification ratios.

If you don't win your battle of placing the captions above, I think there might be a solution. I'm assuming that you are using Word's styles Heading 1, Heading 2, etc. to create headings and then generate bookmarks with Word's Save As pdf function? If so, I think you might be able to edit your

There's no "rule" about this anywhere that I'm aware of. It's just a general style convention. Titles for tables are almost always placed above the table (and sources below it), like any other section title. Captions for figures are usually placed below the figures, but there's no hard and fast rule

What I meant to say with, "defeats the purpose" is that if the hyperlink brings the user to the figure caption, and this is the top of the page, then the image isn't displayed; it's above the figure caption text.
