How Access Control Works

If you are an individual or a group subscriber with an individual log-in, you access this site with the user name and password that you provided when you subscribed to The Chicago Manual of Style Online. If you have signed up for a free trial, you access the site with the user name and password that you provided when you signed up for the free trial. If you have forgotten your user name and password, please click here.

If you access The Chicago Manual of Style Online through an institutional or library subscription, your computer’s IP address is checked against a database of registered institutional subscribers. If your computer’s IP address has been registered with us as part of an institutional subscription, you are given access to the site and no user name or password is required. If the address is not registered, you cannot access the institution’s subscription. If you wish to access The Chicago Manual of Style Online using a proxy server, the institution that maintains the proxy server must subscribe and have registered the proxy server’s IP address as part of the subscription.
