Q. How do you cite a Gallup poll? I am loath to cite it, but I must.

A. To answer your question, I went to Gallup.com and looked at a poll. Like most online news articles, it had a title, an author, a date, and a publisher (Gallup) that you could put together in the style of similar works in CMOS. You don’t say what citation system you’re using (author-date or notes-bibliography), but you can use our Quick Guide (http://www.chicagomanualofstyle.org/tools_citationguide.html ) to figure that out and find a relevant example to follow. Perhaps “Article in an online journal” would work best.
